The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum celebrates Air Force Week

8/14/2012 - New York City, N.Y. -- The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46th Street and
12th Avenue) in Manhattan, celebrates NYC Air Force Week with a variety of
special events and activities Sunday, August 19 - Tuesday, August 21,
including:

Sunday, August 19: Air Force Week will officially kick off with an exciting
F-16 flyover by the Thunderbirds aerobatic team at 1:00 PM and performances
by the USAF Ceremonial Brass on the flight deck. Special guests attending
the opening ceremonies include Secretary of the Air Force, the Honorable
Michael B. Donley; Air Education and Training Command (AETC) commander,
General Edward Rice; NYC Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano; with NBC's
Lester Holt serving as master of ceremonies. There will be no seating
available for the public during the ceremony; however, visitors will be
allowed to stand and watch.

Air Force Helicopter Water Rescue Demonstration will take place at 2:45 PM.
Demonstrations of Air Force skills and various interactive displays will
take place on the pier from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Monday, August 20: Demonstrations of Air Force skills and various
interactive displays will take place on the pier from10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

The Air Force will host a free screening of the film Red Tails on the flight
deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Members of the famed Tuskegee
Airmen will be joining the crowd for the screening. Doors open at 7:30 PM;
the film begins at 8:30 PM. The USAF Ceremonial Brass will perform musical
entertainment prior to the film. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs,
blankets, food and beverages to the screening; however, alcohol is not
permitted.

Tuesday, August 21: Demonstrations of Air Force skills and various
interactive displays will take place on the pier from10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Displays throughout the week include an Air Force F-16 Falcon static fighter
jet display, military working dog demonstrations, drill exhibitions by the
USAF Honor Guard Drill Team, the Air Force Academy Falconer, and science and
technology displays. Various Air Force bands will perform throughout the
celebration. Visitors will also see the Air Force Project Supercars, the
X-1 Mustang and the Vapor Challenger.
